Hello! My name is Rama Bhagwat, and welcome to my blog – Philosophy of Biology and Health (PBH). I attend a large public high school in a suburb of Chicago, class of 2022. I started this blog in my sophomore year – in the spring of 2020 – to reflect on multidisciplinary topics of personal interest to me. It’s kind of a personal, independent research project for the sake of learning, asking questions, then trying to answer them through reading and research, and finally attempting to connect the dots. No grades, please!
My PBH blogs reflect my personal insight that scientific breakthroughs alone – although essential – are not enough to solve the big complex challenges facing our society, and our world. Rather, solutions to complex challenges require a multidisciplinary approach across science, ethics, policy & law, and economics. As I have elaborated in my perspectives on leadership, these challenges also require the right human capital – leadership and collaboration across disciplines – to improve the health and lives of all.
Over time, I have also updated this site with some of my other original research, writings, and a link to my recently published book. Many of the academic and extracurricular activities I have pursued in high school reflect my interests across science, business, and the humanities.
- Molecular Biology, Genetics, and Genomics (Science Olympiad – Designer Genes, Protein Modeling – summer courses – DNA Replications & Repair, Biology of Cancer and Promise of Immunotherapy – and research)
- Business Law, Ethics, and Social Values (high school elective courses and Business Professionals of America (BPA) high school club, and self study)
- Philosophy of Science and the Role of Science in Society (summer course and self study)
My other interests include community service (both local and global), listening to music, playing the flute, Kathak (Indian classical dance), meditation, traveling, exploring various cuisines, playing badminton, and spending time with my friends, now that we are all vaccinated!
